My Students
We are living in the 21st century, and technology is booming. In order to keep up, my students need to have access to the proper tools. With technological devices like Chromebooks in the classroom, my students will not only improve their math and literacy skills, but they will also enjoy doing it!
Imagine a group of diverse, technology-driven 9- and 10-year-old students who are thirsty for learning.
That's how I would describe my group of students. They are always wanting to stay in for recess and after school to work on educational activities on the computer. However, because my classroom lacks the needed technological devices to learn, it's often hard to provide their needs and wants.
The student population we service include students who are on free or reduced lunch and English Language Learners. Many of the students come from single parent homes who either have multiple jobs or don't work. We are also a Title I school.
My Project
My students need 2 Chromebooks to improve literacy and mathematical skills. Chromebooks in the classroom will improve student learning greatly. It will give students access to the proper tools to succeed in reading, math, and other subjects. Students will be able to access the many different programs and educational websites out there using the Chromebooks during centers, small group rotation time, recess, after school, and more. On these sites, they will be able to practice reading, math, and science skills. They will also be able to use the computers for research. Because our school is participating in the science fair, students will need these computers to research topics. Also since we do a lot of testing in the upper grades, computers will help the students prepare for upcoming state tests such as the Hawaii State Assessment in science and Smarter Balanced Assessment in reading and math. These are technology based, and students will be able to practice prior to these tests with the Chromebooks.
Donations supporting this project will really help improve our classroom by providing our students with technology to succeed in the 21st century.
Due to our technology driven world, students are surrounded with iPads, cellphones, TV, and computers in their everyday lives. However, when they come to school, we are lacking the technology to meet their educational needs. With the proper technology, my students will be able improve their reading, math, and life skills that will prepare them for the future.
