Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

Our school is a Title I school in West Los Angeles. It is incredibly diverse socioeconomically, culturally, and religiously, and there are over 20 languages spoken here.

The most unique thing about my students is they all have hearing loss.

They are either deaf or hard of hearing and wear cochlear implants or hearing aids as they learn to listen. Because it is a special day class, these 3rd-5th graders are behind academically, but they all mainstream for part of their day. They have grown so much in the time I've had them in my class and I'm excited that I get to teach them for another year.

My Project

My students will use these Chromebooks to publish their writing, conduct research, and increase their tech-knowledge. Our class need Chromebooks to publish our writing after completing pieces in writing workshop.

It is much more motivating for them to improve their writing skills when there is an end goal, an essay published to a class blog or a typed poem to share with family.

In addition, my students have been learning how to conduct research, including finding credible sources online.

Finally, using these Chromebooks on a regular basis will help them become more technology-literate. They need to increase their typing skills, navigation, and comfort for both our end of the year tests and for their future college experience and careers.
