This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I have a classroom full of wonderful and talented students! They come to school ready to learn despite facing difficult challenges in their home lives and community. Many of our students receive free or reduced-price lunch and about 92% live at, or below, the poverty line.

While our children come to school with certain disadvantages, they bring a wealth of cultural knowledge and excitement for learning which helps make our classroom a wonderful place.

89.8% of students at our school are Hispanic and 100% of the students in our class speak Spanish at home. Because of this, we mix our lessons with English and Spanish instruction! Students love when we include culturally relevant topics into our curriculum and relate our units to their daily lives!

My Project

Having extra Chromebooks within our classroom will aid students in every area of learning! Our school has laptops for use, but not enough for every student to have their own. Because of this, laptops are shared between classes and are only available for part of the day. These Chromebooks will be accessible to students in my classroom throughout the entire day.

The Chromebooks will allow students to improve their learning through ESL support, research, group projects, and review activities (such as Kahoot).

Furthermore, struggling readers may use the Chromebooks to listen to stories online while they follow along in their books to aid in reading comprehension and language acquisition. They can also be used as rewards for students who have completed work or have earned extra technology time through the classroom management system.
