My students need Chromebooks so that we can bring technology into our classroom for learning, researching, learning to type, accessing Google Classroom, and so much more!

My Students

My students come from a variety of backgrounds, where many of them do not have access to computers, email, or technology in their homes. I need computers in my classroom so that I can teach them the keyboarding and computer skills necessary to function in the computer world of today.

Our school is about 40% ELD, with the students in my particular 2nd grade class being mostly from other cultures and varied backgrounds.

Although we are not Title 1, our school borders right on the edge of being Title 1, and many of our students come from lower socioeconomic families. Many do not have email, computers, or technology in their homes and are on free or reduced price lunch. But, that being said, they are very intelligent future leaders of our country, who just need that little extra boost of technology and opportunity to bring them into the current age of technology.

My Project

Chromebooks would change the nature of everything in my classroom! We would use these amazing computers for an overabundance of educational opportunities such as: research, taking AR tests after completing a book, extra math support on www.ixl.com, google classroom and google docs, Type to Learn, ABCya, Lexia reading support, and so many other educational programs. My students could rotate through using the computers instead of waiting for our one hour in the Computer Lab each week, which is not enough time to cover all of the technology tasks I would like for the kids to learn to do.

I cannot even put into words how much having Chromebooks in my classroom would change the nature of how we do things.

I could teach my students much needed computer skills, give them much more time on the computer, and work with students individually without worrying about being booted out of the computer lab for the next class coming through. I believe every student, regardless of socioeconomic status, should have access to computers in their classroom!
