Chromebooks for Collaboration in a Paperless Classroom
My students need 30 Chromebooks to work collaboratively in a paperless classroom. They will work together on assignments, submit them, and receive feedback electronically.

My Students
Collaboration is an important part of a good education. Students in my classes are asked to work together constantly, but it is often not an ideal situation. My goal is to have students working together through technology. Chrome Books will make this possible.
Our school is an average public high school in a somewhat rural area of Washington state.
Due to the socioeconomic situations of our students (high free and reduced lunch population) many of them lack access to technology. Our students have great school spirit and show amazing support for our clubs, activities, and sports teams. They also have incredible hearts, as each year they fill multiple school buses with food to be donated.
I also find that our students are inspired by technology. They really get into anything that involves technology, from online research in English classes , to creating presentations and videos in Social Studies classes, to creating graphs and charts from data in Science classes. If you incorporate using a computer into the assignment, student interest goes way up.
My Project
The Chrome Books I've requested will be used by students to collaborate on assignments, do online peer-editing of papers, and receive feedback from the teacher. Currently, to do this type of work, we have to sign up for the computer lab and take the class to the lab. Then students often have to double (even triple) up on computers. This makes it really difficult for students to work together on an assignment.
When I've had smaller classes, where each student gets a computer, students can work collaboratively on a Google presentation. One student can be putting text on a slide while another is searching the internet for images and then add them to the same slide. From my computer I can view each group's presentation and make comments as they go along. The comments that I and other students make are saved along with the presentation as a log of our collaboration.
The couple of times that I have done this with my students the results have been amazing.
My goal is to have a totally paperless classroom where students receive assignments, resources, and grading rubrics through Google docs, then submit their work and receive feedback all electronically.
These Chrome Books will do this.
I personally have extensive experience with Google's products. I know the power of these online resources and how to bring that to the classroom. My students have the desire to learn in this way. All that is missing is the equipment to make it happen.
