This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are 9th grade honors biology students who are extremely hard-working and curious about the impact of science on them as individuals, as members of society, and their environment.
My students eagerly inquire about the natural world, but are easily discouraged when options for researching their questions are limited.
My students are curious and intelligent, and having a Chromebook readily available in the classroom will allow them to take initiative in researching the impact biology has on the environment around them. As they formulate questions during their classwork and hands on activities, they will have the resources to independently investigate their own questions.
My Project
The availability of a Chromebook in the classroom specifically for student led research will allow my students to create and investigate their own questions about the impact of our topics on the natural world as they become relevant. For example, one case study we investigate while we are discussing energy is the effect of fossil fuels on our economy, environment, and society.
When students have the ability to investigate their own questions, the material becomes personally relevant to their lives.
Without a Chromebook easily accessible, students have no choice but to turn to the teacher to find their answers, instead of learning to research and find answers on their own.
