My students need Chromebooks so that we can work simultaneously on writing (editing and revising in real time); thus preparing them for 9th grade English class and the world beyond!
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
I don't use technology in my classroom because it is a buzzword or trend. I use it because we live in an increasingly digital world, and and it is my job to prepare my students with the tools they need to be successful for whatever that future will bring.
I have 103 unique and amazing students who all come from different backgrounds and have different learning needs; each of them would benefit greatly from access to Chromebooks.
One thing that brings them all together is their love of learning, exploring and, of course, technology. Our diversity allows us to learn not only from the curriculum but from each other, making every experience and every day a learning opportunity. Once they get to high school, they will be expected to be digital learners, as all of their English assignments will be turned in digitally. As 8th graders they are readying themselves to forge on into high school and become more independent learners. I would like to give them the tools and experiences necessary to be ready for that independence.
My Project
As technology continues to integrate into our lives, it is imperative that I find ways to integrate technology into our classroom environment. Through the use of these Chromebooks, my students will be able to utilize Google Apps for Education and therefore experience the advantages of an online digital learning environment. Through this digital learning environment, students will have the opportunity to learn the benefits of real-time collaboration with peers and have the ability to connect with learners around the world. They will learn what it means to be a good digital citizen as well as basic computer skills such as keyboarding. As a result of the online capabilities, students will be able to share assignments, resources, and documents with each other in hopes of continuing to allow the student collaboration, creativity, and learning.
This project will flatten the walls of my classroom and bring the outside world into our room.
It will give my students the opportunity to learn to be more responsible for their own learning. It will help my students see the classroom as a jumping off point for their learning and in the end give them the tools they need to become successful in higher education and life-long learners. Let's make learning fun, relevant and exciting—please consider a donation!
