My students live in Washington, DC, and have gone to schools where access to technology and innovative resources is very limited. At CEC, a low-performing school in DCPS, my students desire more modern, innovative, and personalized learning experiences that challenge them to think beyond their classroom in hopes of making a difference in their communities.
My students have a vision for how we can make learning more of an engaging lifelong process, and they would love a chance to turn that vision into action.
My Project
Students today come into classrooms from many diverse backgrounds, with various skills and levels of knowledge, and with different interests and goals. It's a challenge for a teacher to meet the individual needs of every student while trying to inspire them to be civically passionate and engaged in their communities, which our country needs now more than ever. And, as minority students from low-income communities, they often feel left out of the political process, and they would like to change that.
Although my students desire the opportunity to have a say in their own learning and are eager to make a difference in their communities, our current lack of resources makes this extremely difficult.
By having Chromebooks in our classroom, my students will be able to engage in civics content that meets their individual needs, connects to their individual interests and learning styles, and allows them to plan and manage civic projects to advocate for issues they believe in.
