My Students
Our school community has a close-knit feel not typically found in such an urban setting. Parents, teachers, and students work together to create the best possible environment for learning. There are events like ice cream socials, talent shows, walkathons, and so many others planned throughout the year because we value coming together as a community to swap ideas and cheer each other along.
The 27 third graders in my class are joyously diverse.
Their curiosity about the world and its complexities is inspiring, and exploring ideas with them makes my heart smile.
My Project
"You cannot learn to swim without swimming. You cannot learn to ride a horse without riding a horse." Lucy Calkins states this basic truth we all know. To master a skill, you must practice that skill. My students want to become more proficient with basic computer skills.
My students need practice, but computers are for so much more than mere typing practice.
Students will practice researching and learn how to judge the credibility of sources. Students will use educational platforms like Lexia for phonics instruction, Xtramath for fact fluency, and Wordle to make ideas come alive. An endless library of ebooks and audiobooks will become available for my avid readers. Having this additional technology will increase our learning opportunities in these and countless other ways.
