My students need 7 more Chromebooks to continue their learning and expand their horizons in the age of information and technology.

My Students
I teach at a Title I school in an underserved part of San Francisco. Many of the students are children of immigrants or live in the neighborhood's low-income housing development.
Though their families often have fewer resources, that doesn't stop my students' desire and ability to learn and achieve!
My students are curious, funny, sweet kids who can't wait to start third-grade. They are eagerly anticipating learning cursive, mastering their multiplication facts, reading chapter books, investigating live crayfish in science, making stop-motion videos about Native American life, typing up their stories on Chromebooks, and so much more.
My Project
Generous donors have made it possible for my students to read voraciously from a database of ebooks, type up their writing on Google Docs, make Slideshows in order to present research projects on habitats and how to show S.T.A.R. Behavior, play math games, and even learn coding, financial literacy, and internet safety! My students proudly announce their reading progress ("I read 75 minutes this week! How about you?"). They listen to each other's final writing pieces--stories and expert books (on topics like foursquare and housecleaning)--during our "Publishing Celebration" at the end of a unit. They are able to do this because of the 10 Chromebooks we have in the classroom.
Having a full classroom set of Chromebooks will allow me to integrate this technology not simply as a "Special" done once a week in centers, but as a tool for us to use in our everyday learning.
No longer will we have to sign up for borrowing the school's computers only to find them unavailable due to upper-grade testing. My vision is a classroom where students read a book and then write a review or recommendation on our class website. Where students don't just type up their final drafts but do their drafting on the computer from the start, utilizing the tools of peer commenting and editing on a word processor. (They'll need practice for the computer-based standardized testing they will do soon!) Where students are working at their own pace to practice math skills and more. Where students can research topics of their choice with the breadth of resources the Internet offers.
Thanks to many wonderful donors, the Chromebooks we have in our classroom already have proven to be invaluable in my students' learning. Please help me provide these tools to every one of my 20 students!
