As a teacher of 32 very energetic and curious students in a low income neighborhood of Chicago, it is important to get the students invested and eager in their learning. The children in Chicago are constantly facing and overcoming problems in their streets and neighborhoods. Our classroom is a safe place for them to come and ask questions, explore, investigate, and learn.
My students are hard working, dedicated, and motivated to grow as learners and global citizens in a digital society.
They love reading and discovering new information. They are learning to type and write research papers using the internet as a key resource. My students love working with each other on experiments and projects in Science and Social Studies. They love going on different websites to practice Math skills and watching tutorials on topics that are still challenging for them. They are also working on developing their coding skills using CODE.org.
Our school lost funding for a technology teacher. It is my hope that with Chromebook computers in the classroom we will be able to continue to develop their skills in typing, researching, and presenting using technology. My goal is to help my students to continue to be global citizens and work on solving the problems of the world using technology and to prepare themselves to be active citizens in a technology driven society.
Having technology in the classroom allows me to prepare students for the future careers they may have by doing math lessons, reading novels on the internet, and working on CODE.org on learning coding skills.
There are so many great resources out there that we do not have a chance to utilize without technology. This project will also allow the students to use technology EVERY SINGLE day in the classroom and work on lessons at their own pace and level.
