Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My class is made up of 25 diverse and eager learners. My students love learning through creative and innovative activities. There energy for learning inspires me to come up with exciting lessons that engage them and help them learn new concepts.
My students come to school each day with smiles on their faces, excited about what new things they will learn and experience in class.
They love when we rewrite hit songs to help them learn new concepts. The students also love to create videos of themselves explaining what they have learned.
Most of my students come from low-income households and homes where English is not the first language.
My Project
Students in my classroom will use the Chromebooks on a daily basis. I assign many different projects through Google Apps for Education. Students use Google Slides to make presentations about concepts they have learned about and use Google Docs to type stories and reports. If my students have access to Chromebooks, they will be able to practice skills on IXL, review their grammar skills on NoRedInk, and share learning with families using SeeSaw.
The Chromebooks will help my students by allowing for more differentiated instruction.
They will allow the students access to reading and math materials that are at their instructional level. The Chromebooks will be especially helpful for my English Language Learners and Gifted Learners. My ELL students will be able to use the computers to access different texts at their level. They will be able to listen to texts online, as well as read them. They will be able to watch videos online that reinforce math concepts that are taught in class. The Chromebooks will allow my Gifted Learners the opportunity to do research on independent study projects. They will also give these students the opportunity to communicate through video chats with experts in different careers and research fields.
Finally, we live in a time where understanding and being comfortable with using computers is so important. Not having access to computers on a regular basis, puts my students at a disadvantage. My students need to feel comfortable using the Chromebooks because most district and state testing is completed on computers. The students need the opportunity to practice typing and manipulating the mouse.
