My elementary school has 270 students., with almost 40% of students receiving free and reduced lunch. Our school is also consistently increasing its at-risk and special needs population. Much of our school budget is allocated for staffing to support the student needs in our building. This leaves little funding for purchasing and maintaining technology devices.
With the rigorous Common Core curriculum and focus on technology, our students are required to utilize technology devices to perform the daily tasks and assignments throughout the school day.
Students are expected to use email, Google Docs, and perform online research daily. Many of our students don't have access to technology at home and need to have the access during the school day.
My Project
With the ever increasing population of at risk and special needs students, much of our school budget is spent on staffing to support those students and meet their individual needs. Technology needs are not always met due to the high cost of purchasing and maintaining the devices.
With the demands and pace of the Common Core Curriculum, as well as the need for students to acquire 21st century skills, our 3rd through 5th grade students are in need of devices that are available to them in their classrooms throughout the day.
They utilize technology for reading, writing, math, and research on a daily basis.
The students and teachers in our upper elementary classrooms will benefit greatly by having access to technology throughout their school day. These Chromebooks will give them that access and help them to become 21st century learners.
