Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My classroom consists of nineteen high energy students who work from the minute they enter the room until the minute they line up to leave. We work collaboratively during much of the day, and at times, need a bit of space to work independently. Their ages range from five to six years old. They are eager to learn, and love to work with their peers.

Our school is one of two neighborhood schools in our district.

Many students walk home or get picked up by their parents because they live less than a mile from the school. We are a tight-knit​ community that celebrates our school's diversity, achievements, and strives to instill character strengths such as gratitude, kindness, and grit, to name a few.

My Project

The materials requested will give my students more nonfiction choices for guided reading groups. By having multiple sources, students can investigate the various text features offered throughout nonfiction books, while developing a ​schema that can help them throughout their lives. While enjoying fiction stories, my students can practice their fluency, while working on comprehension skills at the same time.

The Chromebooks will give students the opportunity to explore many online tools that will assist them in their pursuit to grow as readers in first grade.

There are many educational sites the students can access, which will allow them to read stories online, as well as hear the stories read to them.
