Kids today are surrounded by technology! They are now called digital learners. What better way to engage them than by incorporating technology as much as we can into the classroom?
This is my 21st year as a teacher and I love it as much today as the day I started.
My school has three fourth grade classes and I am lucky enough to teach language arts to all of them. My students are excited to learn, especially if technology is involved. However, with 73 amazing students in my fourth grade, it is difficult to obtain enough technology to go around. I want my students to have the opportunity to succeed with technology.
My Project
With only two computers in the classroom, it can be a long wait to use one. Sometimes a student may just need a few minutes to look something up on the Internet for a research project. It sounds like the Chromebook is right for us. It is a new computer from Google that seems perfect for the classroom. The Chromebook allows fast access to surf the Internet and it has all of the Google apps already built in. Students could instantly create and share documents with Google Docs, create video projects with GoAnimate, explore another country with Google Maps, or watch an educational video on YouTube EDU. There are thousands of free educational apps available. Additionally, there is not much wait time on a Chromebook. They boot up in less than 10 seconds and resume instantly.
We were lucky enough to get two Chromebooks funded this year and it has been amazing.
With one more Chromebook in the classroom, my students will have more access to technology in the classroom without the wait! It brings the Internet right to your desk! With this new technology, and your support, my fourth graders can develop and strengthen their own passion for learning!
