My students need a set of Chromebooks so they can learn computer programming, how to use email, write resumes, and type their graduation portfolios.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students are all recent immigrants who have come to the U.S. seeking a better life through education. They are all living dual lives, learning English and how to live in a new country. Many have faced incredible hardship to come to our school - dangerous journeys away from violence and over borders, as well as the hardship of living in a new country without many resources.
After facing down gangs, personal tragedies, and sometimes near-death experiences to get here, it is ironic that the one thing now standing between them and a world-class education is whether they have reliable access to a computer that works.
My Project
To graduate, my students must develop portfolios that showcase the best of the skills and work they have done. All of this is prepared on a computer. Before that though, they need to become proficient at most of the skills we take for granted on computers: email, research, spreadsheets, and posting a photo.
We need your help because our aging fleet of laptops have reached the end of their usability.
Some days, it is a patchwork exercise trying to find enough computers functioning well enough to do basic online document editing or give access to email. These Chromebooks will be our go-to computers for everything from portfolio writing, sharing and editing work, recording experimental data, internet research, writing resumes, and even computer programming in Scratch. We need our computers nearly every day - they are an indispensable tool. We need the technology for the next five years, today. Please help my students get the technology they need to succeed.
