Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
A typical day in my class includes having students talk about some of the content from the history lesson the day before. I want students to enjoy history and push to see its application to the modern day. Every day I think of the quote "Carpe Diem" and want students to learn today not tomorrow.
My students are a fun bunch.
There are so many personalities and curious students. Most of them are frequent users of technology, but very few see the academic and application to the real world it has and not only the social side. It is for this reason technology has become a great goal to push the students into creating with new tools.
I would describe my school as a small-town feel in a big city. Students know each other, teachers know students, and administration makes it a point to go outside and see students. I enjoy having an open door policy during lunch and seeing students come into my classroom and feeling comfortable. Yes students can be loud, but I see it as a chance to get to know them in another setting that is not with 28 of them in a single room.
My Project
I have several ideas in mind on how students will use technology. Firstly it would be a formative check on understanding by allowing students to use the Chromebooks while others are working at their own desk. My goal is to make them familiar with the online resources that they have available for free, such as Google Docs, Sheets, and Forms to have them answer my questions but also to have them quiz and test their classmates, as well.
In other scenarios I see this as a research tool in which students are looking for more information besides what is available in the textbooks. I want them to have a workspace in the cloud so that they can see the connection between computers and work.
This project and your donation will make a difference because it will expose several students to the function of technology in the academic world.
At a time where most students are still using textbooks, pen, and paper, I want them to dive into the modern world and become familiar with technology that will serve them in their careers. With Chromebooks a few steps away, students will see and use them on a daily basis, and become familiar with the technology that they can use.
