My Students
The students in my class have been identified as Gifted and Talented and it is the only class of this nature on the grade. We are located within a diverse neighborhood school. Many of my students are first generation Americans. Their families come from all over the world and many of my students only speak English in school. Our school is a Title I school, where the majority of our students receive free or reduced price lunch. As a result, funds are limited for classroom supplies, especially technology. The school has over 1,300 students.
My students love to learn!
They enjoy learning through books, technology, and hands-on projects. My students have "Choice Time" where they have the opportunity to self-direct their own learning by choosing an activity in Writing, Science, Math, Reading, and Social Studies.
My Project
Technology is a constant in our ever-changing society. The ability to use a computer, type, and research on the internet are important life skills. Because of this, I would love to give my students the opportunity to use technology inside the classroom!
The Chromebooks will be beneficial to my students in a multitude of ways.
The children can use these devices to research information for their group projects. Research can come in the form of pictures or text, and these Chromebooks will allow my students to deepen their knowledge on topics of their choosing!
The Chromebooks will also help students who have difficulty writing. Sometimes my students have so many ideas in their heads that they can't get them onto their papers fast enough! These computers will give them the ability to type their thoughts and provide an alternate choice to writing.
Finally, the students will be able to play fun math and literacy games to support their learning. I will be able to download apps that will assist children in their reading comprehension and math fact fluency.
More than three‑quarters of students from low‑income households
