“Every child has a different learning style and pace. Each child is unique, not only capable of learning but also capable of succeeding.” – Robert John Meehan
I firmly believe in encouraging my students to try until they succeed.
I currently teach 26 energetic 2nd grade students. My school has over 750 Pre-K through 4th grade students. My school is located in a high poverty area, but my students come to school every day with smiles on their faces, ready to learn! About 75% of our school is on free or reduced price lunch. Due to my students' socioeconomic status, school is the place where they can cultivate their computer skills. Many of my students do not have access to the latest technology at home.
According to the STAR Reading assessment, I have 17 out of 26 students below benchmark. Of those 17 students, I have 6 students reading on a kindergarten level, and 11 students reading on a 1st grade level. According to the STAR Math assessment, I have 12 out of 26 students below benchmark. Of those 12 students, I have 3 students working on a kindergarten math level, and 9 students working on a 1st grade level.
My Project
With the donation of these Chromebooks, my students will be able to use them daily for reading and math interventions which they are in desperate need of. I currently do not have enough computers in my classroom for each child to work independently on a program. My students will use these Chromebooks for programs like Achieve 3000, Accelerated Reader, Accelerated Math, and Fast Math. These educational programs will help my students close the educational gap. The programs are research based and will help provide individualized learning to ensure that my students are on or above grade level by the end of the year. These Chromebooks will allow my students access to technology that will help them master skills in second grade. My students have difficulty with reading and math, and these Chromebooks would give them the opportunity for remediation and success!
The donations from this project will be used towards technology to increase and improve the opportunities that my students have for interventions, making sure that they are prepared for their next educational step.
I am also asking for stools for my students to sit on while they use their Chromebooks in small group and interventions.
