Help me give my students a complete set of Chromebooks for our Chinese Bilingual classroom to provide equity for each English learner to the technology they need to learn.
The students at my school are diverse learners in many ways, and they attend a Title I school in inner-city, where free-and-reduced lunch and breakfast are offered to a majority of students.
My students are English learners, including newcomers, struggling learners and students with ADHD, Dyslexia, and learning difficulties.
The young scholars live in a high-poverty area and come from disadvantaged circumstances, but they do not let that stand in their way. My students love learning new things every day in school, and they are fascinated by interactive learnings that spark their creativity and imagination.
My Project
Learning in the 21st century, young scholars need to use technology in the classroom. These Chromebooks reinforce technology skills for the learners by providing them the opportunity to participate in computer-based educational programs in various subject areas, such as Math, Science, and Literacy. Also, these Chromebooks provide additional literacy supports to newcomers and English learners in learning fundamental literacy skills.
In our school, there are only 40 school Chromebooks to share among over 200 4th and 5th graders on a daily basis.
It's very difficult for my students to get a chance to use technology. We can get the laptop cart once a week for about 60 minutes; sometime, we need to share the cart with another class at the same time. For the 4th grade students, they need to practice state-required tests. With the limited Chromebooks in school, they are impossible to have sufficient preparation to familiar themselves in computer-based tests.
Having these 20 Chromebooks with the additional 10 Chromebooks from another projects, it provides equity for each student to the technology they need to learn in our class. Moreover, these Chromebooks can be shared to another class, so more students can get the benefits of having these Chromebooks.
Furthermore, many of my students lack of any computer or laptop at home, so they use only their cellphones or small tablets to work on the digital assignments. These Chromebooks can let those students to use the necessary technology and to extend the learning at home as well. Therefore, having these Chromebooks gives my students more accessibility to technology. Thus, they will have more opportunities to become tech literate, which will lead to success in academic learning and prepare them for a career for the future.
