This year I am teaching an excited group of fourth graders who have demonstrated their desire to learn when I met with during the last week of the 2018-2019 school year. 100% of the students in my class qualify to receive free lunch and are from low income families, yet their passion for learning is evident.
I have a mixed-ability group, some of whom are struggling readers and English Language learners.
It is always my goal to provide a learning environment where all my students are afforded an equitable opportunity to experience success.
I believe that despite the challenges that my srudents face we will enjoy a year of reading and writing workshops and of course exploring science, math and social studies. I have some samples of their writing pieces from last year and I can't wait to watch the growth that they will experience this year.
My Project
To help them develop their reading and writing skills, my students will use these chromebooks to listen to stories read by expert readers. listening to fluent readers will help them develop their own reading fluency and to increase their interest and love of reading. They will also be able to conduct research and examine writers' crafts and use mentor texts to improve their writing. Additionally, they will have the opportunity to create their own digital stories and produce podcasts that will demonstrate their learning in all core subject areas.
Access to chromebook laptops will help give them the 21st century skills they need to get them prepared for middle school, high school, college and beyond.
Since most of my students don't have computers at home nor access to the internet, their only opportunity to experience this type of interactive and engaging experiences depend on the learning environment I create for them in our classroom. Your support of this project will help level the playing field for these boys and girls. Please help us create a Chromebook Center in our classroom.
