My students need risers for Choir performances and competition practice. These risers are perfect because they are portable and can be used for classroom practice as well as stage performance!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My students are amazing 5th to 8th graders who come from North Memphis. This is the first school they have attended that has a music program, though many of them grew up singing at home or at church! They love to express themselves, especially through song and dance. All of my students choose Choir as their elective or after school program, and are super invested in becoming the best choir they can be. In choir they learn sight-reading, harmonizing, and many ultimately perform in city-wide competitions!
My Project
Our Choir program began 4 years ago as the first extracurricular elective offered to students in the history of our school. Our students love being able to express themselves through song, and students in our choir dream of earning scholarships to performance high schools -- some of them have already earned accolades across the city!
These choral risers will help our students prepare for competition, and give them access to resources that are often taken for granted.
I believe that our students deserve to stand proud in performance and sing their hearts out, and I know that they will feel extra strong and powerful on these risers! They'll also be able to collaborate with our school's new band, making the arts valuable and exciting for all students at our school. By helping to fund these risers, we will show our students how much we value both them and the performing arts at KIPP.
