I teach first grade to a classroom family that I call the Zoo Crew. My job is to make sure my first graders love coming to school, learn to make friends, share, cooperate, collaborate, all while becoming academically prepared for second grade! My students are eager readers, writers, mathematicians, scientists, researchers, and problem solvers. Each day they come into my classroom ready to learn something new!

I've been an educator for over 20 years and know that every child has a unique personality and learning style. Over the past several years, I've noticed how difficult it is for many of my students to sit in our traditional whole group position of "criss cross applesauce" on the carpet or to sit in their desk chair for any length of time. As I reflect on my own learning style, I know that I learn best when I am comfortable and able to change positions. I want my group of first graders to have options to choose how they learn throughout our school day, so they can do their very best in a comfortable atmosphere.

Students need the opportunity to move around the classroom and find seating positions that are comfortable for them.
I've found that many six and seven year olds have a difficult time sitting in one position for a length of time. I would love to give them more choices when it comes to seating options.
We all learn best when we feel good in our environment. These balls, stools, and cushions will give my first graders seating choices and help their bodies get ready to learn. Happy bodies are happy students and happy students learn best!
