My Students

I teach some of the most amazing kindergarten through fifth grade students around. My kids are hard workers and really want to become better readers. I try to instill a love of reading in all my kids.

I am such a blessed teacher.

I have forty-four students that come to my classroom each day for intensive reading instruction. My school is a Title One school and has a significantly high number of students that receive free or reduced price lunches. The school feels like a neighborhood school. It's a very closeknit school of great families.

Due to a previously funded project, I was able to start sending reading backpacks home with some of my older, struggling readers. Inside each backpack was a CD player, headphones, audiobook and a copy of the book. Kids were able to listen to great stories even if they weren't fluent enough to read the books independently. I would like to grow that audiobook library so that my kids have more books to choose from to take home. Thank you so much for reading about my kids as you consider supporting my classroom and my students!

My Project

Thanks to Donors Choose, I have two reading backpacks that I send home each week with my students. Included in the backpack are headphones, a CD player, a book and an audio book. Students have a week to complete whichever book they choose to take home. I have three books that kids can choose from at this time. I would like to expand the number of audio books that my kids can choose to check out.

You will be helping my students have a greater choice in the book they want to check out and read.

Many of my kids would not be able to independently read these books, but they are able to read along with a story. Thank you for your consideration!
