I teach kindergarten in a small rural public school serving 250 students. It is so much fun to teach kindergarten. My students are all excited to learn new things. We love reading under tables, working with our partners in little corners, and enjoy choosing the best learning nook each day. It is hard for anyone to sit on the floor or at a table all day!
Kindergarten is the first exposure to full-time school for lots of my students and making learning fun, engaging and comfortable is very important to me.
My Project
I am trying to get materials to create flex seating in my classroom to give my students choice and allow them the opportunity to work in conditions that are comfortable for them. My classroom is often their first experience in school and it can often be difficult for them to sit in traditional tables and chairs. Their bodies are used to moving and wiggling.
The stools, kneeling pads and wiggle cushions will allow students to choose a work space that is comfortable for them and increase their focus.
Our classroom has some flex seating already and these additions will provide a variety of choices for all students.
