My Students

I have an extremely talented group of diverse, low-income students. Our school community consists of Asian, Black, Hispanic, and Caucasian students ranging from preschool to eighth grade.

With at 98.4% attendance rate, these students are eager to gain more knowledge every single day by coming to school ready to learn.

I personally see each student once a week for a one hour class period where they receive a high-quality art education. With an art room geared to choice-based art-making, my students are constantly inspiring me with their critical thinking and creative imaginations.

My Project

Part of my philosophy in teaching art looking at the environment where students learn. I strongly believe that the art room should inspire students to be self-driven whenever possible. When students are working on projects, I currently have a supply cabinet that is wonderful for this. I am able to keep all of my everyday supplies (such as scissors, markers, crayons, etc) and students are responsible for taking them out and returning them after use.

To help encourage the use of non-traditional materials during art making and free choice time, the James Ward art room is in need of a cabinet that is accessible to all students.

Keeping my preschoolers and kindergarteners in mind, this cabinet would be extremely helpful in organizing building materials and other STEAM related items. This cabinet would be easily accessible to my younger students and this easy access to materials for center work would provide more student choice in what they want to create. The remainder of the grade levels would also have access to these materials when they finish a project early and could even use the consumable materials in addition to the large supply cabinet materials.
