Celebrate Black Teachers and Students

This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.

My Project

Book tasting are something I introduced last school year to my second-grade students, and they went very well. I was a little nervous about introducing it this year to my first graders, but it has been amazing. I was able to partner with my local Dunkin' Donuts to get supplies to make it a coffee shop theme. Throughout the event, my students kept asking the same question regarding how the characters looked.

It became evident to me that my students have a desire to see characters that look like them in the books they read.

It is for this reason that I have created this project to get my books with African American characters for our weekly book tasting to take place in May. Please help me make this dream a reality.
