I'm teaching Chinese as a foreign language at a high school in an extremely high-need community in New York.
Teaching Chinese language in a school where 100% of the students are African Americans and Latinos is quite a challenge because the Chinese language is difficult to learn. My students are excited to learn Chinese but they find it very hard to learn the pronunciation of the characters, to write the characters in the right order and to memorize them. However, since each character has its own meaning and components, it's much easier to learn with vision. We have a lot of software for learning characters, doing exercises and learning games, but we don't have a LCD projector in the classroom.
I need a LCD projector in the classroom, so my students can see the characters while they are learning to say them, they can see the process of forming the characters from pictures, they can use software to match the characters while listening, they can see the right order of writing the characters, they can watch the real situation conversations with their body language, and they can also see some videos about the topics they are learning including the family life, school life, etc. Also, I can use power point presentations about different topics of Chinese language and culture in the classroom.
My students find it very hard to write and memorize Chinese characters, but the few times I used LCD projector to teach them, they found it so much easier and more interesting, they asked me why I didn't use it every day. Your help will make it possible.
