My Project
A sensory space is a designated area within a school which can support a student's sensory preferences and needs. It is a space which aims to provide students with the individualized sensory input they need to self-regulate, so they can be better prepared for learning and interacting with others.
A sensory room's importance lies in their ability to offer a calming space where students can regulate their emotions and behavior.
These rooms help reduce anxiety and overstimulation by using soothing lights, sounds, and texture sensory rooms for children feature interactive tools like bubble tubes, tactile panels, and soft furnishings that encourage exploration and development. These rooms also promote emotional regulation, enhance focus, and support the development of motor and social skills.
Overall, sensory rooms helps children interact with and make sense of the world that surrounds them. Sensory rooms typically offer therapy tools or sensory materials that offer sensory input for all five senses. When teaching in an inner city environment, oftentimes students come to school with a variety of exceptionalities, sometimes these exceptionalities are diagnosed and sometimes they are not. But the task of any educator is to try our best to meet the students where they are and provide them with all the tools at our disposal that will enable them to be successful.
