My Students

We are a high poverty, low income school. We are a Pre-K to 5th grade school where the entire student body is able to receive free breakfast and lunch daily. We are in a military area, so many of our children have one or both parents in the military. Many parents are deployed for the school year. We are now a global school, learning about other cultures and people around the world.

Teaching social skills is very important in our school environment; many children do not know what it means to share or how to collaborate with others.

I also want my students to accept others!

Each teacher is like the parent of their classroom. Many students are in single-parent homes, being raised by grandparents or sometimes older siblings. As a staff, we know the importance of giving our students a "family" and knowing they are safe, loved and cared for - at least during the day at school! Accepting others for their differences is hard for adults; young children do it much better, so we want to foster that and continue to build it up in our school. That is one focus of being a global school.

My Project

We are a global school which means are students are always learning about other countries and cultures. We pretend to travel around the World and learn about a new country each week.

Having books and posters to show my student how other children live around the will be very helpful!

My students will be able to look back at the materials and be able to compare how the students live. Since we are learning virtually it will be nice to show the posters and pictures from the book to my students since they will not them to hold themselves.
