My Students

My students are a lively and energetic group of four and five-year-olds from Washington, DC who are excited about learning. Every day they come to school ready to grow their brains and become mathematicians and readers. My students love discovering new things through dramatic play, science, literacy, and creative arts.

"Children learn as they play.

Most importantly, in play children learn how to learn" - O Fred Donaldson, PH.D.

I am a Pre-School teacher so my students learn in various ways. Most of my students are play-based learners and kinesthetic learners; they make individualized play plans, play in centers, sing, dance, and learn through hands-on activities daily.

Each day I am striving to meet each individual student where they are, as they are learning foundational skills to prepare them to move up to kindergarten next year.

My Project

In our class, play-based learning is an important part of my student's academic development and social-emotional development. Through Play-Based learning, students learn to cooperate, communicate, and engage with their peers to build a strong classroom community and learning environment.

During a normal school year, students would have the ability to play together and learn from each other.

This school year looks a lot different for my students. To adhere to the CDC guidelines for socials distancing students are not allowed to share materials or play with one another in a centers space.

“Play is the foundation of learning, creativity, self-expression, and constructive problem-solving. It’s how children wrestle with life to make it meaningful.” -Susan Linn.

This project provides my students with individualized Crayola markers to complete their daily play plans. The Play-doh will provide an opportunity for each student to have their own individualized play-doh that can be used throughout the day in centers and in small group sessions to foster fine motor skills, counting, and creativity. Additionally, the play-doh tools that can be used with the play-doh will provide an opportunity to enhance the play and engagement in our literacy and art centers. The spot markers will provide students with a space they can call their own to stand, sit, dance, and exercise safely while social distancing.

Thank you for helping my students have a safe and successful school year.
