Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
I have students from different socioeconomic and cultural backgrounds. Some of my students will be the first in their families to go to a college or a higher learning institution. They need motivation and orientation on what to do once they graduate. My purpose is to keep them always engaged in their learning and getting them interested in all types of sciences. By doing so, it will allow them to develop an affinity with the subject to further their studies and interest after they have graduated from high school.
My Project
Hurricanes have caused my students and their families to suffer damage on their homes and lives. Since Maria, we are starting to see an increase of students to our area that evacuated Puerto Rico after Hurricane Maria devastated their homes. These students have almost nothing and I need to be able to provide lessons they can benefit from.
I am getting an increase of students that do not speak English.
I would like to get interesting STEM materials to help these students learn science without needing to speak English. Upon receiving this incubator and eggs students will learn about agricultural practices and the food chain. The program will require approximately 20-30 minutes of classroom instruction per week for approximately 14 days (length of incubation ). During this time, the students will learn about food webs, agricultural careers, farm animals, animal handling, embryology, and agricultural products. We will be using many necessary Science State Standards to accomplish this.
The high quality incubators are costly, but necessary for a successful outcome of healthy chickens. Once hatched they will be placed in the crate using the heated bulb to keep the warm. The chick feed and feeder will help them grow and once they are big enough to warm themselves. They will be placed in a loving home.
