My Project
Our special education students are leading a community service initiative that promotes animal welfare through the expansion of our classroom chicken coop. By securing additional resources, we can enhance the care of our chickens while providing meaningful opportunities for students to serve both our school and the broader community.
This community service project teaches the importance of proper animal care, reinforcing empathy, responsibility, and real-world skills.
This community service project will engage the school community and the broader community. Additionally, they will extend their efforts beyond our classroom by educating both peers and our local community about ethical animal treatment and sustainable farming practices.
Beyond the school, our students will engage with the local community by donating fresh eggs to families in need, local food pantries, or school meal programs. They will also participate in workshops where they demonstrate proper chicken care and the benefits of humane farming. These activities not only reinforce the principles of animal welfare but also instill a sense of pride and contribution in our students, showing them that they can make a difference in their community.
The requested resources—such as additional coop materials, feed, and enrichment supplies—are essential for ensuring that our chickens are housed in a safe, comfortable environment while allowing our students to develop leadership skills in service-based learning. This project is more than just an expansion of a chicken coop; it is a community service initiative that empowers students to take action, promote animal welfare, and support those in need.
