This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
The bookshelves in my classroom are falling apart, and do not fit most books and materials.
My kindergarten students are four to six years old and just beginning an inner city K-8 pilot school in Massachusetts.
They LOVE books and quickly learn how to keep them organized in our classroom library. They enjoy listening to stories, and many are ready to read books independently.
My Project
I actually had a bookshelf like this for many years; I used it for books and writing workshop materials. It survived the many floods I had in my classroom, but after the last flood the bottom shelf broke. I no longer have floods in my classroom and would love for my student to have a bookshelf again. It would teach students how to be responsible with classroom materials, and provide a space for them to place the materials.
My classroom is small and this bookshelf would provide space for books and block area materials.
This would be a wonderful addition to my classroom library and help children to become independent readers.
