This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Thank you so much for stopping by! My students are wonderful! I teach a unique group of diverse learners on the south side city of Chicago. I have students on the autistic spectrum as well as some with learning disabilities. My students have unique educational needs and require additional support. I teach grades 3 through 5 in a self-contained classroom. Many students are from a high needs area; all of them receive free lunch. Unfortunately, parents are not in the financial place to help with items needed for the classroom.
My Project
My students come from low income areas and their parents might not be able to purchase coats or jackets for the winter. Essential items like a coat can be a very costly expense for parents. These coats will provide students with a warm coat they need in order to walk through the harsh Chicago winter and get to school. We too often see students in hoodies in single-digit weather. We want to ensure their safety as well as their wellness. Jackets and coats my not seem like a need, but it is necessary in the weather climate we are in.
