This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

I teach at an incredibly diverse public high school with over 3500 students grades 9 - 12. Our students come from various backgrounds, many are immigrants or first generation U.S. citizens. There are over 40 different languages spoken at home, with many students who speak Polish, Spanish, Arabic, Farsi, Chinese, Japanese, Indian, Portuguese, Turkish, Russian, or other languages at home.

I teach students the basic concept of Engineering and 2D and 3D design of Engineering mostly mechanical and some civil.

My Project

My students would love to add another dimension to their 3D design projects along with constructions making use of familiar craft materials such as paper, glue and tape to build electronics projects. This virtual professional development course on Creative Electronics with Chibitronics Paper Circuits offered through Pathfinders Winter Institute will give me the tools and resources to make this happen in my classroom.

They will be able to add some LEDs, conductive copper tape, and the Chibi Chip Clips to structures they are going to construct in my Engineering class.

This will serve as a friendly on-ramp into a new world of technological making. Because paper is such a flexible artistic medium, combining it with circuits broadens ideas about what technology can look and feel like, helping to nurture artistic creativity and personal expression.
