This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

"We are going to the computer lab today," I announce. (Cheering from my 5th grade students) Wouldn't it be nice if this was an everyday occurrence and not just once a week?

I teach 5th grade at a Title I school in Southern California.

Each of the students is qualified for the free lunch program here at school and most come from low-income families in the local neighborhood. Although there are many challenges working at a Title I school, the students are most enthusiastic about science, computer lab time and of course, recess!

My Project

Each week, we are required to use an online math program called ST math. With such limited computer time in our computer lab, it is often times difficult for the students to get the required number of minutes in each week. If we had access to tablets in her classroom, I would be able to have some of the students work on the online math program during the week and not just on our assigned days. With the help of Chevron Fuel Our School program and any other generous donors, we would be able to allow students to have more time on the computers throughout the week.

The most important part of this project would be that it would improve time management throughout the week.

Each of my students would have access, more often, to a computer and would be able to get in the required minutes of their ST Math time. Thank you for considering our project this year. My fifth-graders and I appreciate it!
