My Project
I had no idea how much the students at my new school LOVED chess. Many of them learned in elementary school and are passionate about competing against each other, learning different strategies, and improving their game. Last year was tough because we only had one chessboard. This coming year I want to make sure as many students as possible have access to playing and learning chess as possible.
Chess is a game about strategizing and planning ahead, and getting middle school students to practice these skills is critical to their brain development.
With these chess boards, I will continue the chess club we started last year and increase its legitimacy with timers. This will also make it possible for more students to learn chess for the first time which will encourage their thinking skills and increase their social circle.
