This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
I work at a gifted and talented school and have the honor of teaching math to a group of young resilient 6th graders! Outside math, I would love to offer the opportunity to host a chess club. So many students ask me about this year and year and I would love to bring it to fruition this school year! Every student deserves to have after school opportunities and snacks that will allow for both engage and personal growth. Chess training and practice supports the development of higher-order thinking skills like problem solving, decision making, critical thinking, planning, and even creative thinking. Chess training and practice also helps improve general cognitive ability and scholastic achievement—especially in mathematics!
