This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
The darkroom chemistry of photography project bridges art and science and allows students to see chemical reactions before their eyes. This senior chemistry project is a capstone high school project. The photographic printmaking supplies, including paper, reagents, gloves for lab safety, and other materials will allow students to explore the field of chemistry by learning a series of photographic printmaking techniques from the 1800s including silver salt printing, albumin printing, and cyanotypes. Students will be immersed in the darkroom, working together under the safe red light to recreate old family photos and develop new ones using a series of photochemical reactions and creating a collective family photo album to display their work.
