This integrated Humanities, Chemistry and Math project centers the voices of indigenous women and youth, and seeks to learn from communities who are most negatively impacted by environmental injustices. Indigenous peoples are at the heart of the current and historical movements to counteract environmental problems and culturally view themselves as protectors of the land, air and water. We will use a combination of interviews, stories, silver nitrate emulsion photographic printing, 360 photography and videography, and virtual tools to share our learning with audiences in unique and creative ways. Across the semester, our team of 60 teens and three teachers will venture to various San Diego County locations to learn directly from indigenous leaders and others about indigenous ecological practices and local environmental justice movements.
