My students need a spectrometer and spectrum tubes for our chemistry lab.

Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month
This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Students
My students struggle with many of the concepts in chemistry, because they are just that....concepts. They need to be able to experience chemistry by doing experiments and seeing real results.
Students in my nearly 4,000 student high school come from elementary and middle schools that are Title 1.
We have over 15 languages spoken in our students homes and many of these kids are trying to be the first in their family to attend a four-year college.
My Project
The spectrum tubes have different elements in them that when electrified emit colored light. The spectrometer will be used to separate the colored light into distinct wavelengths that the students can measure and use to identify the exactly which element they are looking at.
With this equipment, students will actually be able to perform experiments that will help them to see some of the most difficult concepts in chemistry.
They will be able to measure wavelengths and identify which element of the periodic table is inside the spectrum tube! This will help my students to be more excited about chemistry.
More than half of students from low‑income households
