At our school, we are dedicated to equipping high school students on the autism spectrum with essential activities of daily living skills, emphasizing the significance of independence both in the community and at home. Our culinary arts program offers hands-on experience, focusing on vital skills such as washing and drying dishes, preparing simple meals, and practicing health and hygiene standards in the kitchen. Additionally, we prioritize safety awareness and customer service training. The supplies requested through this DonorsChoose initiative will empower our students to cook and create meals for sale to staff and peers. This experience fosters crucial skills in money management, turn-taking, and other valuable soft skills. Students also engage in customer service responsibilities, which include taking orders, handling money exchanges, applying math skills, delivering appropriate greetings, and employing effective problem-solving strategies.
