This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because
it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.
My Project
Many of our students are food and housing insecure, and some are the sole financial provider for their families. Students come to school hungry, and many times it is because of a lack of ingredients.
Learning how to make healthy meals with 5 ingredients or less during an after-school cooking class will afford the students an opportunity to be able to provide for their family, while learning a life skill for both college and career; self-sustenance.
If students know how to make their own meals, they will not have to rely on meal plans when they go to college, and through this class, discussions around healthy choices when it comes to eating can also be had.
