This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Project

My students are still coming back from the pandemic years. At school, they need incentives like toys and snacks to stay positive and be responsible, helpful to others, and be their best selves. With a well-stocked class store in place, I can encourage their best behavior starting on day 1 of school. Every time a student answers a question in class, every time they do something kind or responsible, I can reward them with our classroom currency, ACE-bucks.

Having a reason to behave well gives even my surliest students a way to "save face" in front of their friends: instead of acting out in class to impress their friends, they can earn desirable prizes by following the rules.

It's really cut down on behavior issues in all of my classes.

Having a class store has been a game-changer in my classroom management strategy! With yummy snacks like chocolate, Cup o' Noodles, and more available to them, they are suddenly incented to act positively. Additionally, I pay students to do jobs in the classroom that result in a more smoothly running, more organized space. Students even jockey for the best jobs so they can earn ACE-bucks every day to buy glow-in-the-dark tattoos, action tops, or paratroopers. Really, they're still kids at heart even though they're on the cusp of becoming young adults. Thanks for teaming up with me to encourage the very best from our tween scholars!
