This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
My cheerleaders are 6th-8th graders. We are a Title One school, qualifying for 100% free breakfast and lunch. While most of these girls have never danced, cheered, or been a part of a team sport before, they are quickly developing skills and understanding of the basic foundations of both cheer and teamwork.
Our cheerleading program is giving our girls an opportunity to develop positive relationships with women, both as role models and as peers.
The girls on the team are hard working, funny, driven, and have been incredibly encouraging to each other as they navigate these beginning stages of building a sisterhood.
My Project
The materials will make a difference to my cheerleaders by providing them with team uniforms to preform in during games. Having matching uniforms with our school logo will give our girls confidence and an added sense of unity. The conditioning items will help prepare us for basketball season. The ankle weights will help advance their jumps and stretch bands will help them gain flexibility and strength in their legs. Because the girls haven't had formal training or much experience, getting our conditioning in as soon as possible is crucial.
Our team is eager to build a foundation for our cheerleading program and to create a healthy relationship with our bodies.
These items are crucial in developing these aspects of life.
