Celebrating Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

Celebrate Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month

This project is a part of the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Month celebration because it supports a Latino teacher or a school where the majority of students are Latino.

My Students

My students are very diverse, representing many cultures. Most of my students do not have a computer or access to the Internet at home, so they are unable to access educational programs that are available to them. We have strong community support, and the staff treats each other like an extended family. Our families are considered high-poverty so it's difficult to ask for extra materials needed for the classroom. With extreme budget cuts, our school supplies are lacking. I spend a lot of money on classroom materials because I don't want my students to be without the necessary materials to keep them organized and prepared for school.

My Project

My students need a Chromebook charging cart so we can safely store and re-charge our classroom Chromebooks daily. Each night I have to lock our Chromebooks in one of my classroom closets with a bicycle chain and padlock. Then every morning, I need to pull the computers back out and plug them all back in, using one of my desks to stack them on top of. The charging cords are laying and hanging off the desk. The students also have to look through the Chromebooks to find the correct computer that is assigned to them. Afterwards, they tangle up the cords as they try to find the correct charging cord for each Chromebook.

A Chromebook charging cart would be a safe, secure, and convenient location to recharge our computers overnight so they'd be ready for the students to use the next day.

A charging cart would help keep our Chromebooks more organized and accessible to the students. It would also help the kids be more organized and make them more responsible for returning their Chromebooks to their assigned slots and to plug them in for re-charging.
