My Students

My Title I, level 1 (lowest 25%) Specific Learning Disabled (SLD), Emotionally/Behavioral Disabled (EBD) high school students are in ICU! Yes, they are enrolled in Intensive Reading Plus (+)! More than 90% of the student population qualifies for free and/or reduced-price lunch. Approximately 80% of the students live in single-family homes.

Our high school is one of the three low performing schools in our district.

Please help my female student-athletes on the cheer and dance team get essential items for personal care. They are in need of sports bras, underwear, practice shorts and headbands.

My Project

The cheerleader team and our dance team are in need of sports bras, women's briefs and headbands. These developing young people were devastated due to Hurricane Irma and or Hurricane Maria. The students that were affected by Hurricane Maria were relocated to Florida and found themselves in our classroom. Some come to school just to eat and be in a safe place. They are excellent classmates/teammates because they share similar experiences.

They do not have undergarments to protect their developing bodies.

The weather here has been sporadic. It has been cold. It has been hot. The headbands definitely will be a help. These young people sweat and that causes acne on their faces. We do not have a booster club and the student-athletes need to purchase gym clothing which has its own challenges in raising $20 to pay for their gym uniforms. They cannot wear the gym shorts for practice. They are in need of practice shorts. These basic items will help the student-athletes be prepared and dressed appropriately on top and underneath.
