Help me give my students the tools they need to develop executive functioning skills! My students struggle to stay organized. Assignment planners, checklists & color coded binder systems will help teach these important skills!
This project is part of the Black History Month celebration because it supports a Black teacher or a school where the majority of the students are Black.
My Students
Do you remember how proud you were when you first learned how to write, cut out a project, or tie your own shoes? For my kids, these tasks can seem incredibly difficult. Occupational Therapy helps them build the foundations they need to master these skills in order for them to succeed in school.
I provide support to students with disabilities perform their best in their academic environments, meaning anything from the classroom to the cafeteria or recess!
Many of my students have Autism, learning disabilities, or other developmental delays that make learning in a typical classroom difficult. Our school has both integrated NEST program classrooms as well as gifted and talented classrooms and general education classrooms.
My Project
Many of my students struggle with the cognitive skills needed to stay organized, keep track of assignments, and plan for the future. This often means that homework isn't turned in, important papers get lost, and the children are more anxious and stressed out about school than they should be!
During occupational therapy sessions, I teach them how to use tools such as assignment planners, color coded systems, and checklists to compensate for executive functioning difficulties!
Furthermore, the "Unstuck and On Target!" executive functioning curriculum will allow for me to collaborate with classroom teachers in the 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades as we move our students towards more independence and get them ready for middle school and beyond.
