My Project

As a new librarian this year, I have been working on ways to update my high school library and make it easier for students to browse the shelves and choose books to read. When I arrived, the shelves were crowded with books, all with spines facing out. This set up made it difficult to discover new books, and many good books sat on the shelves, ignored. I started using dynamic shelving, with book covers facing out, to entice the students to pick up and check out books. My circulation rates have increased with this method, but I find I need some help making this new shelving system work long-term.

Our library needs book easels to create engaging book displays, which will result in more teens checking out books.

I currently display the books by standing them up face out, but they often fall down or get turned sideways. Paperback books can not be displayed at all. I have a small amount of book easels, and when I use them, the books stand out and students are more likely to pick them up.

It is not easy to get high school students excited about books. By creating displays with book easels, more students will be inspired to choose a book to read. And who doesn't want more students reading?
